Primping and preening such as I do — with an exaggerated care and precision born from the fear of skin slumped suddenly earthward in progeriatric defiance of the natural progression toward frailty — I can understand the sudden conversion to theism (and subsequent polite request) of Clayton Cubitt upon seeing the dual identities of Winston Churchill. However, if age and wither I must, I’ll take the Churchillian furrowed brow and wobbly jowls over the alternative unknown any day.

While it’s not quite clear from the photo whether this is a tunnel or a window, with the latter being a fascinating interior view and the other a simple tube for drool, the concept appeals to me.
But let us take it farther: I immediately imagined more ambitious portholes, that end not on the other side, but in flesh itself. The wet mauve stuck up against the opposite side of a transparent plug, offering a glimpse into a secret interior world. A little glass-bottomed boat, coasting through swelling seas of skin, revealing what lies beneath. The concept is sensual, and revolting.
I imagine a face transformed by multiple windows: one on each cheek and one at the lip, letting light into the mouth’s vault. One could even fashion metal edges with faux rivets, like the tall ships’ windows of old, adding a nautical air.
I do hope more gauge-minded mutants get around to installing peeps. This is a theme that should be elaborated upon.

I have no bodily modifications myself, and yet I am obsessed with the idea of modification. While I despise the majority of tattoos I see (slapped half-assed onto bodyparts that are not flattered by them), a few are so beautiful that they stun me. And every time I see a good one, the possibility of molding my own flesh seems far more interesting.
What stops me from altering myself is that every mod I see is already on someone else. Pre-existing mods are automatically disqualified from further consideration. I would have to come up with something totally unique, and completely reversible, before I made any sort of personal alterations.
But I have ideas for other people’s bodies all the time. Which brings us to the top of this post. The photo above has been ’shopped to demonstrate my latest idea: a full-torso corset pattern tattoo. I used a vintage nude as my base of operations because you can’t sue me for stealing your naked photos if you’re dead, grandma.
God help anyone who got this tattoo, and then got fat.
And while I did some initial research on this scheme, I found a similar idea already in full swing over at ModBlog: a corset-piercing tattoo, which probably qualifies for the title of “meta-mod”.
Hit the jump for an unedited, totally NWS, full-frontal-lewdity version.

The trend among body-mod enthusiasts to implant chunks of shaped silicon under the skin is one that never sat well with me. From a purely aesthetic standpoint the implants rarely seem to take on a well defined shape. From a personal standpoint the idea of having a piece of plastic shoved under a flap of skin, all without the benefit of anesthetic, has simply never appealed to me. I make no judgements on the people that do choose to get these implants, but never considered it for myself. Until now.
These sucker implants seem to be exactly what this kind of procedure was made for. They have a slightly amorphous quality, thus not suffering from the swollen look this type of mod tends to take on (post-healing of course) and I’m certain there are more than a few of you that would withstand a bit of pain in return for an arm full of suckers. This is simply a fantastic execution of an idea, as though each sub-dermal implant was another step in the march toward the concept’s perfection.

Named for the parasitic fungus which they resemble (and quite cleverly named at that), these earrings are one of those ideas that seems so completely obvious that one becomes shocked (and perhaps a little disappointed) they didn’t think of it first. Made from polymer clay, they are easily customizable and as such can be made to flatter any facial type. While this particular set is admittedly a bit flamboyant, and perhaps not suitable for daily wear as such, the ease with which something like this can be made lends itself well to the idea of a more toned down version that still oozes originality and elegance. I can’t wait to see where body jewelry artists take this concept.
