Ectohno: Making The World Of Ubik A Reality

Posted by Ross Rosenberg

coinlampbig.jpg

Jethro Macey’s coin operated lamp, “the first product in a range based on the concept of values and reward, it subtly heightens awareness of consumption through design.”

They said Philip was insane. Seems to me that he was perhaps just a little too ahead of his time. The day quickly approaches when, unable to find change for my front door, I will be unable to leave my apartment.

Ecthomo: Hood Air

Posted by Qais Fulton

hood_air.jpg

I’ll spare you all the usual rant on the constant consternation I endure at the hands of conceptual designs. Suffice it to say if wishes were pennies my dreams of realized concepts would have made me a millionaire many times over. But this…this is simply too much for even me to endure.

This concept by Laura Jaeger is the distillation of my affinity for obnoxiously large hoods, superfluous strapping, and modular design. It’s as if Ms. Jaeger had a direct line into my most obscene fashionisto fantasies, and I’d like to take this opportunity to formally apologize for those things I did with Margaret Thatcher. No one should have to witness that.

The model really doesn’t do the piece justice, but below the jump is a more clear cut indication of how the piece is supposed to work; essentially functioning as a messenger bag when not in use as a monstrous hood. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to track down any further information on the Hood Air or Laura Jaeger, so whether this is actually in production or just an incredibly good idea is unknown. If any of know more about this wondrous design please contact me immediately so that I might spread the gospel of obnoxious hoods.

The Not-So-Distant Haberdashing Future

Posted by Qais Fulton

cobalt.jpg

Oh how I loathe conceptual designs. The near constant reminder of a future that lies just out of reach. Well god damn it like Veruca Salt before me I Want It Now. It is highly unacceptable that I (and you as well I suppose) can’t reach within my vest pocket to pull out an ornately scrolled “pocket-watch” to respond to the aspersions cast on my mother in a text message from Brownlee.

Wearable Motorcycle Exo-Skeleton Concept

Posted by Ross Rosenberg

yamaha.JPG

Art Center College of Design student Jake Loniak designed this motorcycle concept, which he dubbed the Deus Ex Machina. His concept is an electric vertically parking motorcycle controlled by 36 pneumatic muscles with 2 linear actuators. It can reach 60mph in three seconds and has a top speed of 75mph. The exo-skeleton has seven artificial vertebrae and a pneumatically attached helmet. One thing is for certain, it’s a much more interesting “future of transportation” idea than the Segway.
