Skin and Bone

Posted by Qais Fulton

I find the work of Jinyoung Shin unspeakably beautiful. The jutting, grating chaotic tangle of horribly twisted waifs resolves itself into an oddly soothing flow, a kind of disturbing tranquility. Things seem distinctly wrong in the worlds these characters inhabit.

A universe of infinitely complex worlds that are unconsciously grown in my own little perverse theater of the mind while I try to make sense of what I’m seeing. I’ve taken the liberty of adding a few of my favorite pieces below, but I highly recommend you have a look at what Jinyoung Shin has made available on her site.

The Champion Is Risen

Posted by Qais Fulton

jmmmmmmmmmmmn-copy.jpg

Those Alpha-Centauri cluster bastards didn’t know who they were messing with when they absconded with little Jimbles McGüllohanie. You see, Little Jimbles was the latest in a long line of abductees, a paternal legacy of ending up on the business end of an alien probe worn smooth as a riverbed stone by centuries of scientific investigation.

It’s no surprise then that he was hell-bent on being the first man in his family to go his whole life without suffering the indignity of obscene extraterrestrial curiosity; it was his only ambition from the very moment he’d learned his family’s dark secret. The day those space hopping fuckers stole his dream from him (and subsequently his anal virginity) they spelled their own doom. As you can see by his brutal arsenal of alien destruction, Jimbles aims to take his vengeance through the skin.

The Peanut Gallery: Man’s Life And The Mad Doktor

Posted by Qais Fulton

nazigorillaarm.jpg

Amazon has a whole book of these fantastic lurid magazine covers, It’s A Man’s World.

They run the gamut from Man attacked by Animals, Man attacked by Fish, Man attacked by Nazis, and Man attacked by Hippies.

The greatest, however, is an image of a mad Nazi doktor sawing off a girl’s arm, his “special” assistant is bringing him the freshly removed (and bandaged!) arm of a gorilla, which is seen sulking morosely in a cage in the background.

Too right you are friend Haux. This is quite possibly the best image I’ve seen a while which, considering the madness I deposit here on a regular basis, is no mean feat. It’s A Man’s World is currently available for ridiculously cheap; having just purchased a copy I suggest you do the same. A high res version of the above image is available upon request.

Anatomical Charts

A massive collection of beautiful, Japanese anatomical charts, among other ephemera. I love how they flow from one to the next, creating chains of imagery. The second photo shown above is only a small part of a much longer chain.
