In my glorious vision of the future, I sail the seven space-seas from the belly of a transparent shrimp-ship. My crew is composed of cybernetic invertebrates that waggle their translucent tentacles lewdly at the hoity-toity Rigellian transports. Occasionally, Ross and I will meet on the outer rim of the Centauri cluster to do battle from the respective helms of our living vessels.

I find the work of Jinyoung Shin unspeakably beautiful. The jutting, grating chaotic tangle of horribly twisted waifs resolves itself into an oddly soothing flow, a kind of disturbing tranquility. Things seem distinctly wrong in the worlds these characters inhabit.
A universe of infinitely complex worlds that are unconsciously grown in my own little perverse theater of the mind while I try to make sense of what I’m seeing. I’ve taken the liberty of adding a few of my favorite pieces below, but I highly recommend you have a look at what Jinyoung Shin has made available on her site.

One of Ian Burns’ latest pieces, End of an Era, is the ingenious pairing of 16 black and white televisions (all displaying live feeds presumably from the cameras mounted above them) and chandelier. The piece is decidedly dystopian, likely intended to make a statement on the ever-decreasing level of privacy the citizens of supposedly free countries are afforded in this day of near constant surveillance.
However, to many the appeal of this piece will lie in the fact that it looks like something ripped from the crinkly celluloid of Ridley Scott’s cyberpunk masterpiece, Blade Runner. I can’t be the only one that thinks these chandeliers would have fit perfectly among the grungy detritus of a futuristic Los Angeles, or better yet my very own cavernous, abandoned apartment building.

The dwindling bee population is an issue that concerns us greatly. Not only do we enjoy the sweet fruits of bee labor, but the glorious gardens through which we wheel Ross on his day trips from “the home” would cease to exist were it not for the hard work of our striped mascot’s forebears.
Adam Makarenko is a photographer that grieves the tragic loss of the bee with us, producing stunning photographs of the world of Langstroth Range, a bee paradise in which they drift lazily among fields populated with only the most rare, delectable plants and take on a monstrous size more in keeping with the pants-shitting terror they inspire in the uninformed.
There remains no explanation for the mysterious disappearance of the bees, but if there is indeed a just and loving Creator in this universe it has transported them to this wonderland free from cell phone death rays and douchebag frat boys with a freezer and some string. Now if only I could find a saddle and a way in.
