Saturday Morning Comics: Hilarity Comics, plus special Mystery Comic

If there were just one form of human expression dopey and tongue swollen enough to cause the Divine Regent Megatron to fire his arm-mounted fusion cannon into the Allspark of the Covenant and end the existence of quasi-sentient chimpazoids like especially you and not really me forever, it’s the Internet web comic. Hell, Control-Alt-Delete alone might do it.

I’m afraid I don’t read a lot of web comics. Frankly, I sometimes find it hard to believe that a scant ninety years after James Joyce published Ulysses, artistic expression has been distilled into endless series of non-sequiturs illustrated with garish ineptitude by a constabulary of more-beard-than-manchildren working exclusively in the medium of MS Paint. But there you go, and I suppose a progressive liberal arts major like me will just have to get behind it.

Unfortunately, unlike my Ectomite compatriots, I am not a cultured purveyor of the genre. I can recommend scant comics you guys don’t already know. But I’ve always had a place in my heart for Hilarity Comics.

And then there’s this, sent to me earlier today. I have no idea who did it, but both the content and the creator warrant an enthusiastic “Hup! Hup!” from the Junta.

The first one is a lot like - and probably came after - this PBF comic:

I believe that last strip is the work of Zack Weiner over at Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal.

    Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal!
Probably the funniest web comics out right now.

Oh you evil son of a bitch, stealing SMBC from me! How I loathe you, John Brownlee!

Hilarity Comics (and indeed Eegra.com the site that publishes it) is one of the best things to happen to video game humor in a long while. It’s a shame Patrick Alexander hasn’t updated there in a while, as he’s focusing on his main webcomic, Raymondo Person. Raymondo would probably appeal to Ectomites as well, if only for this strip: http://raymondo.chickennation.com/2009/03/18/raymondo-person-0080/

Ditto, the first comic definitely seems like a less funny, less subtle, more overwrought “homage” to the PBF strip (which is from “way back,” at least in internet years). Hmph.
