Heavy Duty Pipe Cutters!

Posted by Ross Rosenberg

petty08-big.jpg

I’ve seen the work of cheesecake illustrator George Petty scattered here and there but I never gave a good look to his occasionally questionable depictions of the female form. This one may be my favorite. Here we can see Miss April being driven mad by the rapid expansion of her skull. One can only assume that it was not long before the poor girl’s head cracked and split open like an overripe watermelon.

Scary, and even more scary if you look at the context! A heavy-duty pipe cutter and a girl gone mad.

I wonder what see just saw.

obviously she has glimpsed the madness of cthulu, god of the octobee.

holy crap that woman-thing’s expression is one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen.

The face is bad enough, but I’m also confused by her attire. Why is she wearing work gloves and ballet slippers? Surely this counts as a fashion faux pas.

Why does this make we want to hide my penis?

For one of two reasons. Either because she has 6″ between her legs (as the pipe cutter can fit sizes up to 6″) or because she’s so excited to have something that can cut something up to 6″.

    This looks shooped to me.

Eliza can tell by the pixels.

Something about her limbs’ unnatural position reminds me of those “impossible” images where things meet at angles they shouldn’t and overlap in ways that defy physics and stuff like that. I can just picture her left leg going over the pipe, then under the shaft of the pipe cutter, then over the handle again.

    6″? You flatter me, Joe.

Thirty years ago I sold plumbing supplies and tools. One of the year’s high points was the release of the annual “Miss Ridgid Tool” calendar, with images not unlike this one.

I was going to say something about how awful that picture looks, but I’m shocked to discover that I’ve already commented.

Definitely not Petty’s best work. Good Lord, that expression on her face is like a rictus of death.

this needs a “Nothing Works That Way!” tag.
