29 COMMENTS ARE NOT ENOUGH

All I know is that I love Reboot. It paved the way for such shows as Reboot: Season Two. That show started getting kinda crazy before it was over.

That or the Super Mario Brothers Show. Do the Mario!

Hey - maybe a little dark for a saturday morning, but Monkey Dust is a fantastic British black comedy animated series. Many of the episodes are probably too “Brit” for an international audiance, but I think that the majority of the following episode is intelligible to anyone. I hope there can be some enjoyment of… : Series 1 episode 3 part 1: http://youtube.com/watch?v=vluZRNObKr4 , part 2: http://youtube.com/watch?v=ezvzIRQwNY4 , part 3: http://youtube.com/watch?v=MBy09AFOaoo . Esjoy!

Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. I watched this at an impressionable age and the way the enemy vehicles gestated on the vine and burst forth as sentient veggie mini-vans from gelatinous, testicle-like blobs … well, the show is cheese but it haunts my dreams.

So I saw this, then asked myself “What did I watch as a little kid?” Three letters came to mind: Cro. It was my first exposure to physics (pulleys, levers, etc.) and made me want to wake up at 6:30 AM every Saturday morning for it.

Cowboys of Moo Mesa and Denver, The Last Dinosaur probably didn’t age as well. I forgot about them until I searched for Cro. I didn’t even like them when I was a kid.

For something more adult, may I suggest Adam Elliot’s “Cousin”. “Brother” is my favorite of his short films but I couldn’t find it on YouTube.

There was this show back in the 80’s that showed modern soldiers with obvious superior weapons battling undead monster gods beneath the earth. For the life of me, I can’t think of the title of the damn show, but one of the episodes showed one of the old undead monster gods getting it’s arm blown off (BY OBVIOUS SUPERIOR WEAPON SYSTEMS) and reattaching it with it’s MUCH SUPERIOR UNDEAD MAGIC!! Daammit, I wish I could remember the name of the series. It only lasted one season. It looked like it was produced by the same guys as the above mentioned “Jayce and The Wheeled Warriors” and “G.I.Joe: A Real American Hero”.
DAMN,DAMN,DAMN!!!!! Damn my drug addled, ectoplasmosis-riddled brain!!

The Amazing Screw-On Head.A steampunk robot with a detactable head that works for Abe Lincoln and battles the evil zombie king who kidnapped his true love and turned her into a vampire.

I’m sure that most Ectomites are too young to remember a wonderful animated movie from the 70s called “Allegro Non Troppo”… But it was wonderfully rendered, and this was a rather heartbreaking sequence from the film.

I think this would be a fine, if not somewhat melancholy, addition to the Saturday morning cartoons.

I don’t know if this cartoon is hosted any place where we could easily watch it streaming but there’s a great naughty cartoon from 1925. There is a description & download link posted in my Livejournal. Share & Enjoy!™

    Comment by Evil Jim — May 24, 2008 @ 1:20 am

Well ok. Maybe not much of a description at the link, but what more do you need than a naughty silent cartoon from 1925?

    Comment by Evil Jim — May 24, 2008 @ 1:22 am

@Eliza - i realize that SMC becomes something of our weekend staple; however, with running out of ideas i thought i would suggest: what else beckoned on our hallowed Caturdays past?

i remember fondly my small “gang” from younger days… five fellows living in close proximity who spent many a Caturday morning at each other’s houses watching the same cartoons we celebrate here (because they always felt more fun with a crowd). afterward, we would sit by the warmth of my NES or Sam’s Commodore or Jeremy’s DMG (or Eric’s mostly illicit collection of VHS tapes, but i digress) and game away the midmorning in pretend playlands.

perhaps we could have a post-saccharine bout of shared creativity over in #ectomo; the results posted later as testament to our earlier sugar high?

    y’know… just sayin’.

    Inhumanoids!!!
I voted for that one last week.
so, you get a second on that one.

    Comment by machinegunetiquette — May 24, 2008 @ 11:56 am

    Monkey Dust seconded!
Fuller episodes can be found on Dailymotion http://www.dailymotion.com/relevance/search/monkey%2Bdust
… Hm, or at least they used to be… Damn, the rest of the shows are now missing.
Just the opening credits alone are great.

However, if it’s odd blasts from the past we are looking for … Maybe some Beany & Cecil? Even as a tyke I thought that was an oddly trippy show.

    Comment by Dan Morrison — May 24, 2008 @ 12:23 pm

You know, there are still quite a lot of unused suggestions from the last call for cartoons. Just saying. http://www.ectomo.com/index.php/2008/05/09/saturday-morning-cartoon-request-line/

Anyway, I was shocked, SHOCKED I TELL YOU, to discover that you do not seem to have included the Freakazoid episode where the titular hero meets Great Cthul… I mean, Vorn the Unspeakable

As I previously mentioned, Visionaries is ace.

Also, how about Betty Boop and Cab Calloway in a trippy musical number?
Max Fleischer - Minnie the Moocher

ReBoot certainly is great, especially the viruses Megabyte and Hexadecimal (I loves me anything where Tony Jay gets to do a villain). Transformers: Beast Wars was also a very good computer animated cartoon.

oh, and seconded for “the amazing screw on head”

since they’re not up yet, i merely suggest the same ones i posted last week.

i think we’ve already had Screw-on Head, and also Korgoth

    Comment by Haux — May 24, 2008 @ 10:53 pm

As a couple of other people on here have said; Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. I have them all on dvd, so it’s not really for me - I just thought everybody should share the awesomeness of it.

To be fair, it’s aged somewhat since I was young, but is still enjoyable, and indeed, the ‘birth’ of the Monster Minds from their seedpods is pretty cool.

I don’t know if you’ve featured this yet, but it’s a bit similar to FLCL in its animation style in places, only over nine-thousand times more insane. Dead Leaves - possible the worst thing to watch ever with a hangover, but definitely worthy of SMC.
