Give Us Your Cartoons: Friday Night ‘Saturday Morning Cartoon’ Suggestion Thread

Posted by John Brownlee

It’s about 16 weeks into Ectomo’s Saturday Morning Cartoons season and inspiration is beginning to run a little dry. So we’re trying something new: weekly suggestion threads. We need your help! Got a cartoon you want to see tomorrow morning? Drop your requests and suggestions in the comments here. Keep in mind we’ve got an archive of 100+ cartoons, so you may want to do a search: we always list the cartoon title in our posts.

29 COMMENTS ARE NOT ENOUGH

One thing to note here, guys: our spam comment filter triggers if you push more than two URLs in a comment. We’ll still get them, and push the comments live, it’ll just not be instantaneous.

i’m sure i’ll think of others, but any of that old Nelvana Sam and Max play we would indubitably receive with pleasure. (well, *i* would, anyway)

as for the idea itself: capital, Mister Brownlee!

Lupin the third, Duckman, Rocko’s modern life if you can find any of the above they’re all great. Perhaps the critic if you can find it. More suggestions coming as I think of them.

This is Superflat Monogram. Its a 5 minute Louis Vuitton ad done by Mamoru Hosoda. Pretty trippy if you can get past the LV stuff.

Thanks, cleve! Yeah, links to specific cartoons are better than just blanket recommendations if you can manage it, though any suggestion is appreciated.

    Aachi & Ssipak

This is the first 5 minutes of the movie. No subs and the quality is kinda of shit but the action is pretty good.

Well how about the two weirdest episodes of Reboot?
Episode 3.03 : Firewall (Complete with a James Bond pastiche opening)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6DRg_5tHXE
(The rest of the episode IS on Youtube)
Episode 3.07 : Number 7 (Done entirely as a homage to The Prisoner of all things.)

Season 3 of Reboot had so much funky weirdness, including one character “evolving” into wearing a fetish outfit that’d have got her into the most exclusive of European perv clubs
(Look up Hexadecimal under Reboot on wikipedia for more info)

All this in a “kids” show

i can’t think of any greater, more ectomo-representing cartoon than the Salad Fingers series.

keep up the great work, kids

    Eek! The Cat.

    Daria.

    Lain.

I’m especially concerned for Daria, as I can’t seem to find it, anywhere.

I never realized how much of a rip-off the characters were from Star Wars until I watched it again as an adult. And I always coveted the toys from this series, but never managed to get any of them, ah well.

    Freakazoid Episode 2: Candle Jack

As a child few things scared me more than the thought that everything I loved might one day turn into wood. A fear provoked by this episode.

    Comment by Professor Robot — March 14, 2008 @ 9:01 pm

first off, don’t say Candle Jack… he’ll come and take you aw

    Monster · Episode 1 Part 1

watching this series now with the fellas on animé nights lately. after Jigoku Shoujo, it’s a welcome departure from our usual diet of sundry benzoic sulfinide (it was this or Irresponsible Captain Tylor… saving Ergo Proxy, Eureka 7, and Death Note for when we have more time at a stretch). pretty good, but is a run of 70+ episodes. won’t push the other links, but that YouTube user has all three parts of S1.e1.

Gorgonas is a bizarre and incredibly unsettling 15-minute piece of horror film making that takes a concept as weird as a trio of international pop sensations who destroy the world after developing the characteristics of the mythical Gorgons and manages to make it more disturbing in a quarter of an hour than nearly any feature film I’ve ever seen can in six times that length.

Argentinian horror savant Salvador Sanz is this decade’s Clive Barker. What’s more, he’s shown more talent in both filmmaking and comicking than Barker has ever shown outside of a Book of Blood, in my honest opinion.

    Comment by Eli Green — March 14, 2008 @ 11:25 pm

wow, Eli - you’re not kidding. that was pretty decent. personally, i wouldn’t quite put him on par with Clive Barker, but on the same path for sure. that one gets my vote for a creepy-ass Caturday. ^_^
