Noise du Jour’s Monster Mash: “Rock DJ” by Robbie Williams
Posted by Eliza Gauger
In a culture of casual nudity, cheap beauty, and non-stop supermodel rollerdiscos, what can a man do to get noticed? How can he draw slitted eyes away from mirrors, and fellow sapphic sphynxes, long enough to make any sort of impression? When personality, looks, and tiger speedos just don’t cut the mustard anymore, what else is left?
What else indeed.

You may be tempted to shut this off after about 30 seconds, because there seems to be very little of merit. Stick with it to the end, and you will be rewarded.

I ask myself, “OK, it’s damnably infectious pop. Fair enough, but why do I care?” But I followed chesh’s advice, and let me tell you: trust Eliza. She picked a winner. I laughed out loud at about 3:05.
Welcome to Ectomo, where nothing is as it seems.

That was pretty damned awesome. Much more interesting than the movie my roommates are watching.

This video has long been a fascination of mine. It both disturbs me and delights me in equal amounts. Isn’t that what Ectoplasmosis is all about?

I recall being shown this video by a friend: ‘Just watch this, it’s great!’ ‘Fuck, Robbie? Getouttahere’
‘No, wait, it’s GREAT!’ And yes, for a few moments, I sat there slackjawed… wicked. Ah, Robbie, you really knew how to stir up some buzz.
Back then (this is from 2000? Man…) I felt this was the most disturbing thing ever video on TV. Little did we knew what the 21st would bring.

Oh man, I remember this video! After seeing it I actually liked Robbie Williams. Then it turned out this was the only good thing he’d done. But what a good thing it was.
