M. I. C. K. E. Y. M. O. EEEW….

“Mickey Feio” (”Ugly Mickey”) collects together images of Mickey Mouse twisted by artistic bile. I would gladly suffer the horrible, weeping sore that is Disney World if it were represented by the twitching icon pictured above; the avenues running through the Magic Kingdom dotted with Thunderbird guzzling, amputee Mickeys. I’ve never understood the appeal of this character. There are far more expressive, intelligent, and witty creations than this rodent with the voice of a castrato.

Like Simon Moon’s personal lord and savior, Bugs Bunny? (Old Bugs, not new, product-shilling, soulless Bugs.)

Exactly. Warner Bros. did a far better job, in my opinion, with characters, writing, and animation than anything Disney did with Mickey. I’m not trying to take away from Disney, they have done some brilliant stuff, but Mickey remains a mystery to me.

There was a strange “Ugly Spongebob” meme that floated around a little while back, producing equally disturbing images.

Try finding the old Mickey comics from the 30’s.
Mickey as a pulp adventurer. Fighting air pirates, the Phantom Blot (who, at one point, ties Mickey to a rafter with a noose around his neck, then doses him with sleeping gas), and opium smugglers. Seeing the panel of Mickey saying “Good Gosh…Opium!” always cracks me up.
