Cthulhu Cthursday: Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened

Seeing as previously I pointed out a Lovecraftian game that could only drive men mad and debase them utterly (which is something I’m sure Cthulhu could actually get behind) I thought it only fair to bring you a game not only steeped in Cthulhu mythos but also worth playing. If a Lovecraftian plot base isn’t enough to please yours the discriminating palate (and why should it?), you’re offered the opportunity to blunder around late 1800’s London as the inimitable Sherlock Holmes.

I need only to think back to days spent as a child crawling around my father’s study amidst musty books, his calabash pipe clenched firmly between my teeth (he knew exactly what I was up to) as I envisioned myself as the great detective, to want to immerse myself once again in the world of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. Thankfully, as a wee Q I was spared the abject horror of H.P.’s feverish scribblings, but the addition of that richness of literary memories in my later age adds to the strange mixture that drew me in to something I might otherwise have dismissed. I expect I’ll be hunkered down throughout the night, gnawing away at my meerschaum, as I once again become the great deducer.

Incidentally, I noticed that this is available on Steam, so there is little excuse not to buy it (I, alas, have reached and possibly exceeded my game budget for the month, so I’ll be getting it next month).

And completely tangential to that, would others here be interested in an Ectomo community on Steam? We could play TF2 together, or Counterstrike if you are into that crap.

while i used to rock the CS:S before the script-kiddies got their daddies to buy them new 1337 boxes, Ectomo TF2 sounds a treat. i feel reasonably certain that i won’t frag to the resounding note of “LOL FAG” or “IYB;KYD… BTWGG”

i, too, have exhausted the game budget for the month with Bioshock ::sigh:: (*great* game, but way too hyped), but i may have TF2 this weekend anyway (if i can convince the wife by quitting City Of (X)). pr3p4r3 70 r4wk t3h f0r7r355, y0!

oh, god… did i just type that? ::noose::

Well, one person is enough, guess I’ll throw together a group when I get home! What’s your name on Steam, Zan? Mine is just “chesh” (unsurprisingly). And what should we call this thing?

wow, table of malcontents used to be really nice. This has become a full-on, raging Cthulhu-fansite. I´m out.

Until you see fit to post some non-cephalopod material you can suck my tentacle.

This looks like a good place to mention _Shadows Over Baker Street_, a short story collection fusing Lovecraft and Sherlock Holmes. Several big names, but most of the work is not terribly noteworthy…*except* Neil Gaiman’s piece “A Study in Emerald.” I loved it! It is also collected in his recently published _Fragile Things_.

chesh, zan, I’ll join the Steam group too, though all I play right now is CS and HL2:DeathMatch. I’d be up for some DoD or TFC though. My steamid is, also unsurprisingly, maicrodrop.

And to be on topic, this game sounds sweet - I’m downloading the demo as I type this.

Alright, the community creation interface is fucking awful but I’ve finally done it.
