Announcement: Cthulhu Cthursday Lovecraft/Ectomeme Mash-Up

Posted by John Brownlee

Update: We’ve gotten one entry for this so far. Come on guys! We’re giving away a Cthulhu! You’ve got another week to enter.

Come up with the best Lovecraft-Ectomeme mash-up. Trepanation by tentacle, vagina coleoidea, Commie Cthulhu, Steampunk Nyarlathotep, etc. It only needs to be an amalgamation of something Lovecraftian with Ectomo’s perverse obsessions and can take any form: you can do a song, a photograph, an illustration, a movie, a story or just write a description.

The winner, of course, gets their very own Cthulhu plushie, plus the honor of being devoured first when Cthulhu slithers from the sea, rubbing the snot from his thousand eyes.

We’ll be announcing the winner next Cthursday. If your entry is something that you can leave in the comments here, do so, otherwise, email it to me.

Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn!

I have antry mashing up Cthulhu and Furries, or perhaps Cthulhu and Film since it references the Care Bears movies.

enjoy, or be filled with cosmic horror, or both.

    Cthulhu “goes like this.”
I didn’t make this so I think that disqualifies me, but I my hope is that it’ll make a few people giggle.

Cthulhu en Pointe. After tireless aeons moping around R’lyeh, Cthulhu decides that it is time to expand his cultural horizons, and enrolls in a ballet class. Horror and madness ensue.

I mean, c’mon - Cthulhu’s eldritch visage is enough to engender madness in the strongest Man, Woman, and Man-Woman Circus Freak, but Cthulhu in a pink tutu and ballet slippers doing a post-modern deconstructionistic interpretation of “Swan Lake”? Sanity Check Fail = False.

    Somebody draw this, please?

Dammit, that should have been “Sanity Check = Fail”.

    Comment by Racerabbit — August 30, 2007 @ 11:25 pm

The sanity check is always a fail in these here parts.

Ya know, I said it before on this site but I’ll say it again.

    Cthulumari Damacy.

The two have more in common than you would think. Both involve a huge underground subculture of DIY fetishists with knitting habits and Boing-Boing bookmarks, both involve sheer, unadulterated yet profoundly wonderful insanity filling your every tendril, and lastly, both involve a slow, writhing shape moving over the horizon to come and destroy us and welcome into it’s squishy, loving embrace!

    It’s a match made in R’lyeh!

Alright, here’s an idea I came up with all by myself, but due to my limited abilities, I am unable to show you what it is. However, I do believe a description will suffice.

Picture this: A writhing mass slithers from the deep and crawls toward the shore. Its fez hanging slightly to the right slipping ever so slightly as the creature makes its way toward shore. A single long finger reaches up to twist the creatures curling, dripping moustache. The creature is none other than the Eldritch horror Cthulhubee. The creatures reaches up and lights a pipe hanging loosely from its tentacles. Water runs down its oily skin and a flash of thunder illuminates its black and yellow stripes. Its face distorts into what we can only imagine is a smile as it crawls toward New York City.

hola hola! well, this might be kind of useless, since it’s in spanish, but it’s just so the mexican cult of cthulhu is present. if anybody understands (nsfw) spanish, you’ll definitely get a kick out of this silly one, with phrases like “con los ojos rasgados yo no se si es chino o por el culo le han dado; lo que más me impactó era eso que le cuelga…” (meaning something like “with his almond-shaped eyes I don’t know if he’s chinese or something’s up his *fanny*; but what shocked me the most, is that which hangs from him…”)

I’m a little ashamed to be showing off my sub-par photoshop skills in front of all you ecto-heads, but describing my vision just wouldn’t do…

It really is hideous, but Sam wanted to learn Photoshop, and since I know nothing about Photoshop that meant randomly clicking on buttons. Sam actually planned on a Flying Spaghetti Monster/Cthulhu mashup, but we couldn’t get it to work out. Maybe next week/month/year.

Still, young Erin’s first encounter with ancient evil can almost work for Mustache Monday or Cthulhu Cthursday. They both wanted to send it in anyway so take it as you will.

On a side note, Some interesting art in Boom! Studios CTHULHU TALES #1 if you haven’t seen it - Cthulhu at the beach http://www.newsarama.com/Boom/Cthulhu/CthulhuTalesPre.htm (gives new meaning to a girl putting on her face).

    Have a great weekend!
