Giant Squid, 2006
I very much enjoy this particular piece by Nemo Gould although perhaps not for the reasons which he indented; for while I understand the idea behind it, and while I appreciate its sleek, shiny carapace and barbed arms it still strikes me as a squid riding a bicycle, an image that fills me with an almost indescribable glee.
Check out his YouTube channel to see this and his other sculptures in action.

OF WARS & WITS & POWER 02
Stunning bookcases by Daniel Loves Objects; your tomes encased in the silhouettes of towering missiles balanced on the backs of golden, AK-47 toting toy soldiers, frozen in time as they march off to face the enemy. I’m not sure how functional something like this would be, but then again I don’t particularly care, either.

Courier 2007
Not to sound pithy but Thomas Doyle’s work immediately strikes me as a line of snowglobes designed by Alfred Hitchcock. He explains his work thusly:
[...]
The pieces’ radically reduced scales evoke feelings of omnipotence—as well as the visceral sensation of unbidden memory recall. Hovering above the glass, the viewer approaches these worlds as an all-seeing eye, looking down upon landscapes that dwarf and threaten the figures within.
Conversely, the private intensity of moments rendered in such a small scale draws the viewer in, allowing for the intimacy one might feel peering into a museum display case or dollhouse. Though surrounded by chaos, hazard, and longing, the figures’ faces betray little emotion, inviting viewers to lose themselves in these crucibles—and in the jumble of feelings and memories they elicit.
[...]
That in mind, to me Doyle’s most successful pieces may be this one, fulfilling all the requirements set out in his artist’s statement with a degree of finely honed subtlety. The dread that Courier evokes is palpable. Something horrible has occurred in that house and something equally horrible will occur once again, and soon. All the house has to do is be patient, and wait.

Ectomo and ToM favorite Kris Kuksi will be opening Imminent Utopia at the Joshua Liner Gallery in New York on November 22. Kuksi’s bizarre, surreal sculptures feature a wealth of astounding detail, and I’m looking forward to seeing them in person. The show runs through December 20.

Long time reader Narkalant — who also happens to write for one of the many, accursed videogame sites that populate the internet like so much acne, along with a number of others hacks you’ve never heard of — recently unveiled this wondrous fruit, scarred by the visage of the mighty, ubiquitous Octobee; the horrific symbol of Ectomo’s intertubular dominance and the shadowy figure that haunts the nightmares of its enemies.
Of course, as well executed as this particular pumpkin may be there is, unfortunately, the small problem of the use of the aforementioned horrible, mighty mascot. You see, for while one may praise Mr. Biv’s skill with the carving knife it must be pointed out that the rights to the graven image pictured above are held by our very own Miss Gauger, a cruel, heartless harpy of a woman who carries with her wherever she travels a valise filled with tiny, gibbering lawyers, with teeth like shards of glass and writs the likes of which could only have been drawn up in the deepest bowels of Hell. Picture Eleanor Abernathy except with more legalese.
So before you “Ooo” and “Aah” over Ryan’s work think about the man himself as he’s consumed by an army of lilliputian barristers, his screams matched only in volume and pitch by the cries of “COPYRIGHT” emanating from every one of Eliza’s six hundred and sixty six mouths. Just something to keep in mind should you find yourself contemplating a project like this one.

Behold the beauty of imperfection! These white or skin-coloured shoes made of synthetic plaster, bandages, stainless steel, and other medical materials, aim to expose the taboo on physical deformities.
A recent passion for shoes, prompted and unfulfilled by a trip to Europe, has left me sending shoelorn letters to friend Libby during the day. My current holy grails cost no less than $1700, and I am seriously considering dropping the cash, regardless.
In this spirit of junk-sickness, I give you her latest tease: sculptural shitkickers built to thrill every medical fetishist with a leg to stand on.
