The Bite Of The Goblin Shark

Posted by Ross Rosenberg

A goblin shark attempts to ward off a scuba diver. Having never seen one of these in motion, the Alien style jaw protrusion came as a bit of a surprise. The translucent skin appears so gauze-like, I half expected them to separate from the shark completely.

I showed this to a few people, and for some odd reason they are either repulsed and/or not interested. However, I think this is the best thing I’ve seen on the web all day. I just can’t stop watching it. and drooling on the trackpad of my laptop.

Moray eels actually do have Alien-like secondary jaws that come ratcheting out of their gullet:

Aside from the shooting mouth parts and the “my skin will rip asunder in the gentlest of breezes” thing, I think its kind of adorable. Just look at that nose!
