Well, I’m not fucking the pool boy. To be fair, we haven’t really met. Though I’m sure he’s nice.

Say, how does one pronounce “Qais” anyway?
Comment by John — July 3, 2008 @ 7:31 pm
Very carefully.

What server is this on? I want in.
Comment by csquared — July 3, 2008 @ 9:58 pm
John – it’s pronounced like “case”. He also likes it when you add a “U” to the spelling.

@ John
I think it’s kaw-iss, except that’s kind of a throaty “k” sound that we dont have in english.

@ Exor,
Yes, *obviously*ยน, the “q” followed by a vowel without a “u” in between:
a. indicates that the name comes from a Semitic language (Yep! Linguists classify Arabic and Hebrew in the same family: Semitic languages);
b. represents a voiceless uvular plosive, close to, but nevertheless distinct from, the voiceless velar plosive most of us are familiar with: the former is pronounced further back in the mouth than the latter.
1. By which I mean that I’m making a wild guess.
