HDR imaging, a method in which multiple photos in a wide range of exposures are stitched together and tone mapped (though some higher end digital cameras can achieve these results directly), often produces astonishing results.
The process allows for a broader spectrum of light to be represented in a single image, the supposed intent of which is to create an image more true to the actual range of the scene, but usually results in imagery vivid to the point of being surreal. Tokyo is a city highly conducive to producing fantastic results with this method, making an already futuristic landscape seem totally alien and amazing.
